I think a lot of the value depends on the experience rather than the initial price. Right now, Antarctica trips are popular as a result of some of the penguin movies. But certain times of the year are more rewarding than others.
You might also want to look at adventure travel or smaller boats. Sometimes, they offer advantages based on location especially if you want to go to some of the more remote places. a couple of companies come to mind like Geographic Expeditions or Lindblad Expeditions. They're not the only players though as you can find other folks from the Adventure Collection.
